Believers and Spiritual Attacks
Lesson # 1
The Two Spiritual Kingdoms
  1. The Reality of the Two Kingdoms: Every human who is now alive on planet Earth is really living in one of the two spiritual kingdoms that control this world. A person is either in the Kingdom of God or in the kingdom of darkness of Satan. There are no other spiritual places. You are in one of these two kingdoms. Jesus identifies the two kingdoms:

    1. The Kingdom of God:
      • Jesus came proclaiming the Kingdom of God
        • Matthew 4:17 The Kingdom of God was near.
        • Matthew 6:33 People needed to seek God’s Kingdom.
        • Matthew 10:7 He sent the disciples to proclaim God’s Kingdom.
        • Matthew 13:31 The kingdom of heaven is like a mustard seed…
        • Matthew 13:44 The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field.
        • Matthew 13:45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant looking for fine pearls.

    2. The Kingdom of Darkness and Satan rules over his kingdom:
      • Luke 4:5-8 Satan claims he controls this world through his kingdom.
      • John 14:30 Jesus identifies Satan as the ruler of this world.
      • John 8:44 Jesus identifies those who belong to Satan’s kingdom.
      • Matthew 12:25-26 Jesus said that Satan had a kingdom.
      • Luke 22:53 Jesus identified those who were coming to arrest him as being used by the kingdom of darkness and with its power.

  2. There are two groups of people on this earth — In the Kingdom of God or in Satan’s kingdom:
    • Matthew 13:37-39 — The field is the world, the good seeds are the sons of the kingdom, but the tares are the sons of the wicked one. The enemy who sowed them is the devil.
    • Ephesians 2:3-6 — We all once conducted ourselves in the lusts of our flesh…and were by nature children of wrath, just as the others…But God, who is rich in mercy… even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ.
    • 1 John 3:10 — He who sins is of the devil… In this the children of God and the children of the devil are manifest: Whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God.
    • Colossians 1:13 — He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love.

  3. Jesus came to destroy Satan’s power over the peoples on earth:
    • Hebrew 2:14-15 — that through death He (Jesus) might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.
    • John 16:11 — of judgment, because the ruler of this world is judged.
    • Ephesians 1:20-21 — And seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all principality and power and might and dominion.
    • 1 John 3:8 — For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that He might destroy the works of the devil.
    • Colossians 2:15 — Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
    • Jesus has triumphed over the kingdom of darkness and through His sacrifice on the cross, we who were in the bondage of sin and death have been set free to be in the Kingdom of God: For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death. Rom. 8:2 NKJV
