CHRIST'S PROPHECY OF THE END-TIME
#2
WARS, FAMINE, DEATH, EARTHQUAKE, PERSECUTION
Matthew 23:37—Matthew 24:9
Christ’s Prophecy concerning Jerusalem and the Fulfillment: Matt. 23:37-Mat. 24:1-2
Jesus cries over Jerusalem and the hardness of their hearts — Matthew 23:37; Luke 19:41
Prophecy of immediate fulfillment against Jerusalem: Mat. 23:38; Luke 19:42-44; Luke 23:28-31
The prophecy against Jerusalem was fulfilled in AD 70 when the Roman army under General Titus came against Jerusalem because the Jewish people were rebelling against the Romans. Jerusalem and the temple were destroyed and most people killed. Those who were able to escape began the diaspora to the nations of the world.
Eyewitness’s account of the Romans’ attack of Jerusalem AD 70 —
Josephus Flavius
The Church in Jerusalem before AD 70:
For almost 40 years believers witnessed to the people about their Messiah, Jesus Christ, in Jerusalem, Judea, and the rest of Israel.
In AD 64 Peter was martyred; in AD 62 James the brother of Jesus was martyred; in AD 67 Paul was martyred.
The rest of the apostles went to N. Africa, Asia, India, and other places and all except John were martyred for Christ.
After Peter’s and James’ martyrdom, the church in Jerusalem moved to Transjordan, east of Israel, and was spared the calamities that came against Jerusalem in AD 70.
Prophecy of future fulfillment: Mt. 23:39 [They will not see Jesus again until His Second Coming]
Christ’s end-time prophecy and fulfillment: Matthew 24:5-9
Jesus told His disciples who wanted to know about the signs of the end that it would begin with:
Wars, rumors of wars, nations fighting against nations [Google: Wars and Conflicts of the last 100 years]
There will be famine [Google: Ten Greatest Famines of the World—Seven have occurred in last 100 years]
There will be earthquakes [Google: Greater Earthquakes in last 100 years]
There will be tribulation and persecution of believers [Google: Persecution of Christians in the last 100 years]
But Jesus told His disciples:
See that you are not troubled; for all these things must come to pass,
but the end is not yet… All these are the beginning of sorrows.
Jesus told His disciples to be watching for the signs preceding His return: “
Now learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender and puts forth leaves, you know that summer is near. So you also, when you see all these things, know that it is near — at the doors!
In the last 100 years, there have been more wars, famine, earthquakes, and persecution of Christians like never before in the history of the world — Christ is at the door!
