The Spirit Of Deception, Lying Spirit And A Spirit Of Confusion :
Jesus warned about Satan being a liar and the father of it — all he speaks are lies. (John 8:44)
Used by false prophets and teachers :
A lying spirit in the mouth of the false prophets (1 King 22: 19-23)
The prophet Micah had a vision of the throne room in heaven.
The sovereign God permitted a lying spirit to take over the false prophets of Baal so they would cause the evil king, Ahab, to follow their false prophecies.
Prophets prophesy lies
Before the Babylonians came to attack the city and destroy it, the false prophets before prophesying falsely to the people and they loved it. The people did not want to hear what Jeremiah was saying, which was really a warning from God to what would happen if they did not repent. (Jeremiah 5:30-31)
God warned the people the prophets were making up their own prophesies. (Jeremiah14:14)
Recognizing false prophets (Deut. 18:20-22) — the prophecy does not come to pass.
Men of corrupt minds destitute of the truth — 1 Tim. 6:3-5
False teachers were bringing in deception to control the people for their own gain. Paul warned Timothy about them coming into the church.
For there are many insubordinate, both idle talkers and deceivers…Ti. 1:10-11
Again Paul is warning regarding false teachers bringing in deceptive teaching for their own gain and controlling the people.
For such are false apostles, deceitful workers — 2 Cor. 11:13-15
There were false apostles, agents from Satan, transforming themselves into apostles of Christ
False teachers using deceptive words — 2 Peter 2:1-3
Peter warned: There will be false teachers among you who will secretly bring in destructive heresies…and many will follow their destructive ways…they will exploit you with
deceptive words.
Many false prophets use the spirit of control on their victims: (2 Peter 2:18-19; 2 Tim. 3:6-7)
Ananias and Sapphira lied to the Holy Spirit — Acts 5:3-9
There are many warnings in the Word of God regarding false teachers and false prophets who would use a lying spirit, a deceptive spirit, and a controlling spirit to keep many under their control and for their own gain.
All of this is used by the enemy in order to keep the children of God in deception and not effective for Kingdom work. When people fall under a lying spirit, they must be given the truth for the Lord to set them free from under the control of the lying spirit. Believers must be very careful not to fall under the deception of false teachers, and the believers must always act like Bereans checking any new teaching brought to them to see if this is really what the Word of God teaches.
