THE SPIRIT OF LUST
The Spirit Of Lust
It is a very effective spirit used by the enemy against the children of God — found both in the Old and the New Testament.
It is a seductive spirit that works with the natural drives of humans.
It works along with a controlling spirit, a lying spirit, and others.
The main goal of the enemy in using this spirit is to render the believer ineffective in the work of the kingdom once the believer falls under the control of this spirit.
This spirit is involved in all kinds of sexual immoralities, fornication, and adultery.
It comes to steal, kill, and destroy, as Jesus warned.
Old and New Testament Examples:
David and Bathsheba (2 Samuel 11:1-8)
David was relaxing instead of going to war with his men.
Was not ready for the spiritual attack the enemy was preparing for him.
The enemy had targeted David because he was a key spiritual leader of Israel.
Attracted to Bathsheba and seduced by a lustful spirit.
The outcome of this incident was that David violated the 10th commandment, as he coveted and took another man’s wife.
Then other spirits like lying spirit, deceptive spirit, controlling spirit, and a murderous spirit came to control David when he tried to cover up.
The merciful God forgave David, but he greatly suffered the consequences of his action the rest of his life.
Israeli men seduced by Moabite women (Number 25:1-9)
Israeli men relaxing after a long journey through the desert.
Encouraged by the prophet Balaam and driven by a spirit of lust, Moabite women came to seduce and invite the men to commit sexual immorality with them—breaking of God’s commandments.
The men were also seduced into sacrificing to their gods and bowing down to them—Israel was joined to the god Baal of Pe’or.
The result: The anger of the LORD came against Israel and twenty-four thousand died in the plague that God sent against them.
Members in the church of Pergamos following the doctrine of Balaam (Rev. 2:12-16)
Jesus warned the church in Pergamos that they were following the same spirit of lust that had caused the men to sin and joined with Baal of Pe’or during Moses’time.
This spirit of lust was behind the doctrine of Balaam.
The Lord warned them that He would come and fight against them, if they didn’t repent.
Members of the church in Thyatira under seductive lustful spirit from Jezebel (Rev. 2:20-25)
Members of the church being seduce to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed idols-- the doctrine of Balaam.
The Lord warned: He would bring great tribulation against them, if they didn’t repent.
The Corinthian man with his father’s wife (1 Cor. 5:1-7)
Paul horrified that the church had not taken action against this man who was sinning under the control of a spirit of lust.
The punishment for this unrepentant sin was to be turned over to Satan for the destruction of the flesh.
Many in Corinth were under a spirit of lust. (2 Cor. 12:21)
