1. FOLLOWING THE FATHER OF LIES, THE DEVIL :
• Jesus said: You are of your father the devil, and the desires of your father you want to do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it. John 8:44
• When Jesus spoke these very hard words, he was talking to the religious leaders of Israel who were constantly plotting to kill Him and who had accused Him of doing all the supernatural miracles by the prince of the demonic world.
• Proverbs: Lying lips are an abomination to the LORD, but those who deal truthfully are His delight. Proverbs 12:22
• Paul declared: Therefore, putting away lying, “Let each one of you speak truth with his neighbor,” for we are members of one another. Ephesians 4:25
• Paul wrote to the Colossians: Do not lie to one another, since you have put off the old man with his deeds. Col. 3:9
• Strong warning in the Book of Revelation: But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”
• The spirit of lying is from the father of lies, the devil. All who follow this spirit will have their part in the lake of fire if they don’t repent.


2. CONSEQUENCES FOR LYING TO THE HOLY SPIRIT — ANANIAS AND SAPPHIRA
• When the church began in Jerusalem: “Nor was there anyone among them who lacked; for all who were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the proceeds of the things that were sold, and laid them at the apostles’ feet; and they distributed to each as anyone had need.” Acts 4:34-35
• There was a couple in the church, Ananias and Sapphira, who also sold a property to give it to the church. But they conspired among themselves to lie and not reveal the exact amount that they had sold the property because they wanted to keep a part for themselves.
• But the Holy Spirit alerted Peter regarding the conspiracy and Peter confronted Ananias when he was alone. And Peter said: “Ananias, why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the price of the land for yourself? While it remained, was it not your own? And after it was sold, was it not in your own control? Why have you conceived this thing in your heart? You have not lied to men but to God.” Then Ananias, hearing these words, fell down and breathed his last.
• When his wife came in, Peter confronted her also: And Peter answered her, “Tell me whether you sold the land for so much?” She said, “Yes, for so much.” Then Peter said to her, “How is it that you have agreed together to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” [Acts 5:1-10]


3. FOUR HUNDRED PROPHETS WITH A LYING SPIRIT IN THEIR MOUTH :
• The king of Israel, Ahab, wanted to go to war against Syria to reclaim a territory that had belonged to Israel.
• He invited the king of Judah to go with him and the king of Judah agreed, but he first wanted to hear a word from god through the prophets.
• So Ahab brought 400 prophets who all began to encourage them to go to war against Syria because they claimed God will give them the victory. So they said, “Go up, for the Lord will deliver it into the hand of the king.”
• But the king of Judah was not sure and he asked: “Is there not still a prophet of the LORD here, that we may inquire of Him?”
• When they brought Micaiah, the prophet of God, he gave a tremendous revelation: Then Micaiah said, “Therefore hear the word of the LORD: I saw the LORD sitting on His throne, and all the host of heaven standing by, on His right hand and on His left. And the LORD said, ‘Who will persuade Ahab to go up, that he may fall at Ramoth Gilead?’ So one spoke in this manner, and another spoke in that manner. Then a spirit came forward and stood before the LORD, and said, ‘I will persuade him.’ The LORD said to him, ‘In what way?’ So he said, ‘I will go out and be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets.’ And the LORD said, ‘You shall persuade him, and also prevail. Go out and do so.’ Therefore look! The LORD has put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these prophets of yours, and the LORD has declared disaster against you.”
• King Ahab was very angry with this prophecy and he sent Micaiah to jail and he went to war listening to his 400 prophets who had been given a lying spirit. But as Micaiah prophesied, Ahab was killed in the battle and all his army ran away.


4. MAKING UP LIES AND A CONSPIRACY BROUGHT MUCH MISERY AND PROBLEMS TO KING DAVID
[2 Samuel 11 & 12]
• When King David had an affair with a married woman whose husband was away in a war, she became pregnant. Instead of repenting and asking God to forgive him for the sin of adultery, David began to lie and ended up creating a conspiracy that caused the death of the woman’s husband. But David never repented until God sent a prophet with a word to David. It was then that David understood the great sin he had committed and he repented. Nevertheless, he was greatly punished by God and the sword never left his family with much death and sorrow for king David for the rest of his life. Following after lies is an abomination against God and it will bring consequences.
