The True Church
Lesson # 2
The Commission with Authority and Power

  1. Teaching disciples Kingdom principles:
    • The Sermon on the Mount given only to Christ’s disciples.—Matthew 5-7
    • Jesus taught His disciples Kingdom principles.—Matthew 5-7
    • The Law and the prophets were up to John the Baptist and then Jesus arrived proclaiming the Kingdom was near.—Luke 16:16; Matthew 4:17
    • The disciples followed Jesus throughout the land of Israel seeing the miracles, the deliverance from demonic possessions, and being taught kingdom principles.

  2. The First Commission: Matthew 10:1-14; Luke 9:1-6
    • Jesus called the twelve disciples and He sent them to preach the kingdom of God.
    • He gave them POWER and AUTHORITY over all demons and to cure diseases.
    • Jesus commanded them to take nothing for the journey—no money or extra clothing.
    • They were to go to go to the different towns and stay in a house where they would be taken care of.

  3. The Second Commission: Luke 10:1-11, 16-19
    • The Lord Jesus appointed 72 disciples and sent them 2 by 2 to every city and place where He would be going.
    • He reminded them that the harvest was great and that more workers were needed; and they needed to pray for more workers.
    • Jesus gave them POWER and AUTHORITY to heal the sick and cast out demons.
    • He commissioned them to preach the kingdom of God was near.
    • They were to carry nothing and to take no money, and they were supposed to stay in people’s houses.

  4. The Third Commission—the Great Commission: Matthew 28:18-20; Luke 24:47-49; Mark 16:15-18
    • Jesus appeared to His disciples after His resurrection and commissioned them for the work.
    • Jesus proclaimed that all authority in heaven and on earth had been given to Him.
    • He told them to go, make disciples, baptize them, and teach them what He commanded them.
    • He gave them the AUTHORITY to heal the sick and cast out demons.
    • He told them to wait for the POWER of the Holy Spirit to be His witnesses in Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, and the outermost parts of the world. Acts 1:8

  5. Same in all 3 Commissions:

    1. AUTHORITY over the kingdom of darkness, to cast out demons, and deliver the possessed.
    2. AUTHORITY to lay hands on the sick and to heal the sick.
    3. POWER to be His witness and to proclaim the Kingdom of God.

  6. IMPORTANT!
    • The Power and the Authority are still there, but most congregations have chosen not to use it church.
    • The enemy has deceived the church saying that it all ended with the first apostles—this is a big deception from the enemy who wants to keep the church weak with no power against the kingdom of darkness.
    • But the POWER to proclaim the Gospel and the AUTHORITY to heal the sick and to cast out demons are still available for those who choose to believe Jesus.
